History and Background
There used to have divided opinions among medical practitioners
about whether there are movements of cranial bones. In 1939, William
Garner Sutherland was the first scientist discovered the possible
movement of cranial bones. Recent science experiments and medical
instruments such as CT Scan justified Sutherland's discovery
and have shown that facial and cranial bones are not fused together,
rather they could have certain kind of motion, "flexion"
and "extension", as per what Sutherland called. This discovery
laid the important foundation of various cranial bone manipulations
for subsequent medical treatments and therapies. As it had been
proven by various clinical research and experiments that proper
re-alignment of cranial bones can have therapeutic results to various
kinds of physiological problems,
different cranial bone manipulation techniques were developed.
In 2005, a group of cranial practitioners in Hong Kong established
the Association of Asian Cranial Practitioners, aiming to provide
an alternative way of wellness to people in Asia. The mission is
that based on Cranial Alignment Therapy (CAT),
developed by Prof. Brian Y.K. Chan, and
the related training program towards the
accreditation of Certified Cranial Alignment Therapist (CCAT),
even medical laymen should be able to help people restoring cranial
bone motion to its optimum and facial features can be improved as
well.
